Lansing Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Filed

We recently filed a Lansing medical malpractice lawsuit against a Lansing hospital and several Lansing area physicians.  The lawsuit was brough under the Michigan Wrongful Death Act and seeks damages for the family of a 54 year old woman who died from anesthesia complications while undergoing a routine outpatient procedure.  The suit alleges that her gastroenterologist, the anesthesiologist, and others were negligent in their care and this caused her death.

The woman suffered a respiratory arrest during the procedure and a full code was called to rescusitate her.  She was rushed to a local emergency room but by that time had suffered a hypoxic brain injury.  She was never able to come back from that injury and eventually died.

The suit was filed on behalf of her husband, three daughters, and her grandchildren.  Damages sought in this case include the loss of companionship suffered by the family, the loss of her income, and the loss of her services provided to family members at the home.  The suit contends that the death was preventable if the medical staff had properly monitored her during the procedure and taken necessary measures when her condition continued to worsen.  The case is currently pending in the Ingham County Circuit Court and no trial date has been set.
